Do you need a new lawn installed? Or, maybe you'd like your existing lawn repaired or thickened up? You've come to the right place. Green Boys Lawn Care offers a full range of seeding and sod installation services, using only top quality seed, sod and fertlizer products, that are suited for this area.
Seeding of new Lawn: We use a compact tractor with a tiller and box blade to loosen and grade the area prior to seeding. We then perform a final hand raking to make sure everything is graded properly. The lawn is then slice-seeded in two-opposite directions with 12-15 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. of premium grass seed to ensure a thick stand. We normally use turf-type tall fescue grass seed, because of it's durability and attractive color and blade size. Other varieties of seed are available upon request, and if an area is heavily shaded, we will use a shade mix. Finally, a starter fertilizer is applied, to give the seed a good start. Daily watering is very important following seed installation. To ensure you get the most out of your investment, we always provide watering instructions upon completion of each job. For areas that cannot be watered daily, we recommend the applicaton of straw for moisture retention. (Additionally, straw helps hold the seed in place, resisting erosion, and may somewhat restrict birds from eating the seed, and also insulates the new seedlings during cold weather.)
Over-Seeding of Existing Lawns: Over-seeding is performed in the much the same way as a new-seeding. With a few exceptions. We do not till and grade the lawn. Core aeration can be performed prior to seeding, to help loosen the soil, but may not be required in all cases. The lawn is slice-seeded in two directions, but normally a lower rate of seed is used (8-10 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft.), since some grass is already established. Starter fertilizer is applied only if the lawn is not already being treated regularly, to avoid over-fertilizing. Moisture is again critical, and watering instructions are provided. Straw again has benefits, as previously mentioned (especially in bare areas of the lawn), and is available upon request.

Sod Installation: While sod is a fair amount more expensive than seeding, it does leave a lot less to chance. Sod will give you a nice lawn from day one, and it's not as susceptible to erosion and traffic during the establishment period like seeding. If erosion is a concern, you have outside pets, a problem area in your lawn, or just want an instant lawn, sod may be the right option for you. At Green Boys LawnCare, we'll prepare your ground, install high-quality Turf-Type Tall Fescue sod (Kentucky Blue Grass and Zoysia are also available) from local growers, and roll the sod when we are through. Daily Watering is recommended for the first 3 weeks, and we'll leave watering instructions, so there is no confusion.
